It takes into account your current grade from calculations of all the other exams and requirements, this data should come from you, the weighted percentage of your final exam, as well as the final grade you are striving to get.

The calculator uses a simple formula to determine the necessary grade for your final exam:

Formula:

Needed Grade = (Goal Grade – (Current Grade × (1 – Final Exam Weight/100))) ÷ (Final Exam Weight/100)

• Current Grade: Your grade so far in the course.
• Final Exam Weight: The percentage of the final exam in relation to your overall grade.
• Goal Grade: The grade you want to achieve as your final overall grade.

Example:

Let’s say your Current Grade is 85%, the Final Exam Weight is 40%, and your Goal Grade is 90%. The calculator will show that you need to score around 97.50% on your final exam to achieve your goal.

Studying Tips to Reach Your Target Final Grade

I was a student at one time too, as most people once are, so do not forget that you are not alone in facing a nerve-wracking and heart-stopping final exam that sometimes costs about half of your overall grade, as crazy as that sounds, it could be true for some.

So, here are some useful studying tips from someone who was once a student too.

1. Start Early: I’ll be honest, I used to wait until the day before the exam to start studying for it, and unless you are a genius or incredibly lucky, most of the time you will fail to get a good grade with this strategy.

You could still somehow pass, just like me, but anyways, learn from my mistake, you could do more than just pass.

2. Use Active Recall: In today’s world, studying is incredibly hard, not because of how the concepts and topics of your exam changed, but because of the presence of distractions.

From cellphones and computers to social media apps and Netflix, reading and reviewing your notes will probably not stay in your mind and stack knowledge. It is better to use active preparations such as taking past exams or mock exams, flashcards, and other active ways.

3. Join Study Groups: The purpose of study groups is for both of the mentioned techniques above to be implemented easily and properly. You can be an accountability partner for each other, and you can try to take mock exams as a group.

There are also some concepts that you don’t understand that someone else from the group does, and you might have some classes and lessons that you missed. There are a lot more benefits, but the point is it helps.

What to Do If Your Goal Seems Impossible

Now this is the hard and possibly sad part of the final grade calculator. It is knowing that you can’t achieve your target final grade anymore. However, there are still some things you can do before thinking the world is ending.

Ask for Extra Credits: I’ll be honest directly once again if you are already studying in an established university or college. This would most likely fail unless you have a good reason or excuse.

It is to make the exam fair for all students who also have their own issues with their personal lives that they are dealing with while taking the course too. However, you could always try, and maybe the professor is just kind enough to give you an assignment or other extra work to achieve that grade.

But in my experience, it only happens if you are super close and only a few percent away from a certain grade that you desire.

Learn from the Experience: If you really can’t ask for any more extra credits, what’s left is to learn from this experience and look back on what went wrong. You shouldn’t try to be positive or negative at this point. Just be more objective and try to zoom out.

Remember, there is more to life than passing a final exam. Yes, it will have a domino effect in your life, like not being able to take the next course, being delayed a year or two from graduation, or having your scholarship funds cut down.
