Would you believe that a 2-year-old was able to describe exactly what a real-life pilot from WWII experienced? Most people won’t, but this is the story of an American boy named James Leininger.

A Child’s Nightmares That Seemed Too Real

James was about 2 years old when he began having dreams or nightmares about flying an airplane and then crashing. His parents heard him scream something like, “Airplane crash! Plane on fire! Little man can’t get out!”.

Both of his parents thought that it was just a phase in his childhood and would eventually snap out of it. However, as time goes on, his descriptions of what he remembers become too detailed to ignore.

Details That No Toddler Should Know

James then began describing various things and places related to WWII, such as “Natoma Bay,” a WWII aircraft carrier, and “Jack Larsen,” a fellow pilot. All of those details are information that he should not have known, let alone a 2-year-old saying all of it.

He also mentioned flying a Corsair plane and that it had some mechanical quirks that only real-life pilots will know. Eventually, they tried to find out if everything he remembers matches an actual military record.

A Match with a Real WWII Pilot — James M. Huston Jr.

2-Year-Old Remembers Past Life as a WWII Pilot

The Leiningers discovered that what James was describing was a real-life pilot who fought in WWII, named James Huston Jr., who died in 1945 when his Corsair plane was taken down over Iwo Jima.

During World War II, James Huston Jr. was stationed at USS Natoma Bay alongside another pilot and his wingman, Jack Larsen.

Every detail the 2-year-old described aligned with what was in the military records, including how Huston died, down to the crash location of the Corsair plane.

Attempts to Debunk — and the Questions That Remain

James Leininger’s story

Of course, skeptics and other adults argued that the child could’ve easily picked up all of those from a television show or from books. However, the Leiningers denied exposing James to any WWII-related content.

Even several experts who studied James alongside a few other children who demonstrated knowledge that they could’ve only known if they lived the life of those deceased people, were baffled and confused.

Up to this day, this phenomenon has no scientific evidence or explanation. Is it possible his memories were real after all? Or is it just a strange combination of pattern recognition from content he probably absorbed as a 2-year-old?

Maybe he heard it on the radio, or that another relative exposed him to this information. Those are some of the leading theories, but what do you think?

Well, whether it is real or not, this is still an extraordinary event that must be studied cause who knows what humans can unlock if we were able to prove that past lives can and do exist.
