For decades, the Bermuda Triangle has been the source of a great mystery of ship and aircraft disappearances. The area, located in a region of the western North Atlantic Ocean, has gained a reputation for having countless unsolved and unexplained events.

However, recently, we have not heard any more cases that are attributed to the mysterious area. The reason is not the removal of its curse, or any type of magic or monsters, but rather it is based on facts and science. So, here’s why we rarely hear about new disappearances there.

What Was the Bermuda Triangle Mystery?

Why We No Longer Hear About Disappearances in the Bermuda Triangle 2

The legend of the Bermuda Triangle began in the mid-20th century, when articles about disappearances of ships and aircraft in the same particular region gained traction. It is an area roughly framed by points in Florida, Bermuda, and Puerto Rico, creating a triangle-like shape on the map.

The stories about strange vanishings in the Bermuda Triangle captured imaginations and spread throughout the globe. Because of that, different superstitious beliefs and hypotheses trying to explain the phenomena arose. The theories include pirates, aliens, giant monsters like the Kraken or a Sea Snake, and Greek Gods.

However, investigators have already looked closely in the late 20th century and confirmed that none of the stories is real, or they are wrong and heavily exaggerated.

Science and Facts Beat the Magic

The Bermuda Triangle’s Story Is Far from Over
The Bermuda Triangle’s Story Is Far from Over

Scientists like Karl Kruszelnicki, the US Coast Guard, NOAA, or the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association, all do not believe in the superstitious belief about the Bermuda Triangle. They have found no proof of ships and planes disappearing more often in the Triangle than in any other busy ocean area.

They saw that spots that are frequented by ships and aircraft are the ones with the most disappearances or crashes. The cases were all almost always caused by storms, mistakes, or equipment errors. In other words, the legend might be because there is a higher probability of more incidents happening in the area, simply because there are more that could occur there due to the number of vessels passing by.

Better Technology Means Fewer Mysteries

Why We No Longer Hear About Disappearances in the Bermuda Triangle 3

One more reason that could have contributed to the growing legend of the Bermuda Triangle in the 1900s was the lack of technology for communication and monitoring. This has allowed the vanished ships to become more mysterious as their reason for disappearing is unknown to the public, but it is most likely caused by human and equipment errors or natural disasters.

However, the reason why we don’t hear as many disappearances in the Bermuda Triangle anymore is the presence of technology that allows us to explain the unknown. A ship or aircraft could not just disappear anymore without a trace, and even if it does, an error would be logged on navigation systems, GPS trackers, or communication records.

This will make the investigation easier and result in a realistic and feasible report to find out what went wrong, where it happened, and why, turning what used to be a “mystery” into a clear explanation.

The Myth Just Doesn’t Hold Up Anymore

There is also a person who debunked the myth of the Triangle, Larry Kusche. He is a librarian and pilot who has experience in the area. He investigated a lot of the older stories that contributed to the legend. However, he found that some flights didn’t disappear there, some ships turned up later, and some storms were not reported.

He called the Bermuda Triangle a “manufactured mystery” that was created by the media and publishers who carelessly reported the findings. Because of him, the other scientists of today, and our current technological advancement, the Bermuda Triangle is now just a normal part of the ocean, which has heavy traffic and natural storms.

Author's Final Thoughts

We do not hear as much about the Bermuda Triangle anymore, having another “victim” because science, technology, and careful research have replaced myths. All the problems in the area are now seen as natural or human-created. Rather than a mystery, we should look at it as an area filled with stories waiting to be explained.
