Have you ever thought there could have been a civilization on Mars just like we have on Earth at one point in time? That is part of the theory of this Harvard physicist, and also that life on Mars does not exist now because of an Alien Nuclear Explosion. It is a controversial take, but one worth our time to explore.
A Controversial Theory Emerges
Dr. John Brandenburg, a physicist with a background in plasma physics and ties to Harvard, has proposed a theory that there was once an advanced civilization on Mars that was destroyed by an alien nuclear event.
His theory is completely based on the detection of specific isotopes in Mars’s atmosphere. He argued that those isotopes resemble what would have been produced if there had been a nuclear explosion catastrophe.

Whether a nuclear explosion happened or not, just the theory that there was a civilization, let alone any form of life on Mars, is already controversial. Combined with an extinction event, Dr. Bradenburg’s name and theory have become so popular that both big media news outlets and the scientific community have expressed interest in exploring it.

Radioactive Isotopes as Evidence
Dr. Brandenburg points to the anomalously high levels of xenon-129 and other isotopes that can be observed in the Martian atmosphere. Here on Earth, the isotopes he mentioned are all associated with a nuclear explosion.
That is basically the core of the theory, that the presence of those isotopes is not natural, and his findings are consistent with a civilization existing on Mars that was destroyed by a thermonuclear event.
These findings might be too little of a piece of evidence to move forward, but it is actually a pretty strong one. Potassium and Iodine are the parents of these isotopes that would naturally produce them, but rock samples have shown that Mars doesn’t have the necessary amount.
Meaning, if those isotopes really can’t be produced organically or naturally on Mars, then the only way for them to be present there is for them to have been created, or an asteroid containing them hit Mars.

Possible Remnants of a Lost Civilization

Central to his theory about a civilization existing on Mars is the weird or strange surface structure is the Cydonia region, also known as “Face of Mars”. He argued that it could be remnants of a past civilization, supporting his theory that a once-thriving Martian civilization ended because of a Nuclear catastrophe.
Another part of his theory, where he lost most of the scientific community’s support and even some of the public ones, is that he speculated that the nuclear explosion was not triggered by the native population of Mars via an internal conflict or disaster but rather by an extraterrestrial force.

The Alien Attack Hypothesis

The alien attack hypothesis might be one that is highly controversial, but it opened up a conversation about how a possible alien contact is very dangerous and possibly triggers a species-ending event.
However, the scientific community can’t accept this theory as there is no evidence leading up to it. The isotopes present on Mars could argue that there was a nuclear explosion, but they can’t support that an Alien or extraterrestrial beings are the ones who sent it there.

Author's Final Thoughts
Dr. Bradenburg warns that the fate of Mars, even if speculative, could be a cautionary tale to Earth. If an advanced civilization on Mars really did disappear because of a Nuclear explosion, alien or not, we should try to understand the cause to prevent such a possible disaster on Earth.
What do you think about his theory? Is it one that is very believable up to one point? Are there any parts of the argument that you disagree heavily with? Let us know, we’d like to discuss it with all of you.
