Online tutoring unlike being a social media manager will only require you to possess a specific expertise in one subject area. But, you have to really know everything about it or at least be knowledgeable enough to answer any queries from someone who knows less.

There’s a quote from Albert Einstein that says, “If you can’t teach it simply, you don’t understand it well enough”. When deciding to be a tutor you have to understand the subject well enough to be able to teach it online.

Some of the most popular subject areas are Mathematics, Science, English, History, and Foreign languages.

3. Freelance Writer

Potential Monthly Income: $1,000 – $3,500

Freelance writing is one of the most suggested jobs for people looking to find work online. This is because it is also one of the most in demand. However, this does not mean that there is a lack of freelance writers, in reality, it is the opposite.

There will be a lot of competition in this field, but the demand for good writers will always be there. To be a good writer you need to not only have good language and grammar skills but you have to be knowledgeable enough in the niche or industry you are writing about.

Being a freelance writer does not mean you can just write about anything, maybe you can do it and be good at it, however specializing in writing in a specific industry will bring you more job opportunities than just being a general writer.

When you encounter a job opportunity for any freelance writing work, you will often find a description from the clients preferring writers who have a background in the industry they are working on. So, be sure to find a niche that you are passionate about, to not only help you get hired but for you to actually love what you are writing about.

4. Virtual Assistant

Potential Monthly Income: $800 – $2,500

Most of the work in today’s world can be done online. This also means that many business owners will most probably prefer hiring someone who can help them accomplish their tasks every day without the need for an office.

Before the age of the Internet, hiring assistants was the norm for busy entrepreneurs, but now just like any workers and employees, they work at home, whether it is in their bedroom or a home office.

However, they will still need help with simple chores that are not so urgent but time-consuming as their businesses grow. That’s why the demand for virtual assistants is higher than ever.

The tasks that they will do daily will be easy but with a great number. Examples include scheduling appointments, checking and replying to Emails, answering calls and queries pointed at the employer, and more.

The best platforms to find a virtual assistant job are Upwork, Fiverr, and Freelancer.

5. Online Fitness Coach

Potential Monthly Income: $1,000 – $3,000

If you are someone who regularly goes to the gym, or have a lot of experience in working out or even nutrition, then it might be a good idea to get some part-time jobs related to online fitness.

However, you must set an example for your clients. Just think and put yourself in their shoes, will you want to be trained to stay healthy by someone who is not fit at all?

The good thing about it is you can only work a few hours per day or even per week. No one needs to work out for 8 hours every day, just make sure that you try not to get too many clients than you can handle.

It might also be a good idea to start a blog or website showcasing your expertise and even promoting products that you have used. This does not only give you a little bit more boost on income, but it also gives you credibility as a fitness coach and increases trust from your potential customers.

6. Graphic Designer

Potential Monthly Income: $1,000 – $4,000

Graphic designing is a field for creative people who have proficient skills in specific software and tools such as but not limited to Photoshop, Canva, and Figma.

As a graphic designer, you can work on different types of projects ranging from web designing, logo making, and advertising materials for platforms such as Pinterest, and Instagram, or just for a company’s ad campaign.

This job does not necessarily need a degree since most graphic designers are self-taught. What’s important is for you to possess these skills such as:

  • A good and strong visual eye for colors, their contrasts, and typography.
  • Technical proficiency in software tools used to design any materials needed by your clients.
  • Creativity and innovation to come up with something new or unique.

Some of the platforms that are helpful in showcasing your portfolio are Behance and Dribbble.

7. E-commerce Store Owner

Potential Monthly Income: This can vary greatly.

An e-commerce store is one of the most competitive jobs on this list, but will also be the most rewarding once you have successfully launched it.

More and more people are using online stores to purchase everything they need, from clothes and accessories to groceries and now even cars. You can buy almost everything online, you just need to find the right store for it.

Now you have two main choices for this, you can create a website or an app for people to find your products. Since developing an application similar to Amazon will require a lot of technical skills and coding abilities it is essentially better for beginners to start one with a website.

Now you can sign up on any website creating software but the best ones are still WordPress and Shopify. Through these two you can create a website from scratch and even help you manage safe transactions.

Now, there is a lot to know about starting an e-commerce store and I wouldn’t be able to fit it in this article so here are two resources from Shopify and Amazon that I found helpful for a beginner.

8. Digital Marketing Consultant

Potential Monthly Income: $1,500 – $4,000

reach and audience through online platforms. It is a big industry and being knowledgeable about it will certainly help you get paid enough.

The job will include a deep understanding of different tools and strategies used to grow traffic to a website or increase the user base of a product or service. There are many techniques and skills you will need to learn and be responsible with such as:

  • Search Engine Optimization or SEO
  • Content Marketing
  • Social Media Marketing
  • Email Marketing
  • Pay Per Click Ads

These are only a few, and some digital marketers focus on only one or two of these key strategies. But, after a few years in the industry, most learn about each and every one of them, maximizing their income by increasing their expertise.

9. Web Developer

Potential Monthly Income: $1,500 – $4,000

I am a web developer who is currently finishing my computer science education at the time of writing this article. One thing I would say is that it is still in demand. With all the new tools and software that let individuals with no experience build a website, the expertise of a web developer is still very much appreciated by these big corporations.

One hard thing about it though is the sheer number of competition in the field, although almost every high-paying job will have this problem. The key is to stand out by having a well-created portfolio with several projects that boast your skills and abilities.

You must increase your online presence by showing people that you are knowledgeable in your field. This means creating and focusing on your LinkedIn account and personal web portfolio, or other platforms that can increase your visibility to your target companies.

It is also a field that is constantly evolving, you must always learn new technologies otherwise new graduates and self-taught programmers will leave you behind.

Additionally, the most important thing is not your educational background but your work experiences and real-life skills. That is why a lot of dropouts and boot camp graduates can get into Google or other big tech companies without attending prestigious universities, so apply to as many internships as you can while you are still studying.

10. Photo Editing

Potential Monthly Income: 1,000 – $3,000

Most photographers will have some form of photo editing skills, and most of them are good at it. But, some companies and brands just want someone who can edit the photos they already have.

Many photo editors are self-taught since most of the job will be spent on a particular software that the editor is comfortable using. Some of the most popular tools are Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom.

Moreover, the difference between a photo editing job and a graphic designing one is the focus on enhancing the photo rather than creating it, and building a great portfolio that showcases your different editing styles and techniques is essential to attract a good amount of customers.

11. SEO Consultant

Potential Monthly Income: $1,000 – $3,500

Search engine optimization or SEO has been mentioned earlier in the digital marketing job section but I figured that it deserves its own number in this article.

This is because there’s an average of 8.5 billion searches every day on Google. The sheer amount of people using it and for how many times should be enough for any business to consider being serious about hiring an SEO consultant who can help them rank on search engines especially Google to earn some of this traffic.

Search engine optimization requires multiple skills that will be too long to discuss in this article but some of them are keyword research, on-page and off-page optimization, backlink building, and a focus on EAT or Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness attributes of a specific site.

To know more about SEO, here are the beginner guides from Moz and Ahrefs, two of the most used and well-known tools in the industry.

12. Virtual Bookkeeping

Potential Monthly Income: $800 – $2,500

Virtual bookkeeping will require some form of education whether it is through universities or just hands-on training from other companies or your own business even. It is a remote role that involves managing the financial records of companies.

As a virtual bookkeeper, some of your roles include preparing financial reports, keeping track of transactions both revenue and expense of a company, and reconciling bank statements.

It is a very number-oriented job that will require you to at least be good at Mathematical operations. However, with the increase of software tools that can help you do all the responsibilities of being a bookkeeper, it is now more important to know how to use them.

Tools include Quickbooks by Intuit, Xero, and Freshbooks. Almost all of the tasks that a virtual bookkeeper needs to do will be available inside this software so invest in learning at least one of them. You can easily do so by searching on YouTube and choosing their own tutorials.

13. Participating in Online Research Studies

Potential Monthly Income: $200 – $1,000

The last part-time job on this list is to participate in online research studies. Companies and brands often do this on their own, but some hire freelancers to find some information online that they would really need for their marketing campaigns, product development, or even just branding.

The tasks can vary widely, from completing surveys and answering questionnaires to finding secondary sources from trustworthy studies. You can leverage research tools such as Google Scholar or even Chat GPT which recently have been upgraded to have the ability to research the web through Bing searches. Just make sure to verify all of your chosen resources and do not forget to cite all of them.

Finding part-time jobs for online research involves signing up on research platforms such as Prolific, university research departments, and companies that specialize in market research. This role might not provide a steady income, but it can lead to a full-time job or even finding a business opportunity in the industry you are researching.

Final Thoughts

There are a lot of part-time jobs that you can do but finding one that you can work on from home and is high-paying at the same time will take a lot of effort and time. This article listed 13 of these part-time jobs, however, not all of them will be suitable for you.

It is important to know your strengths and weaknesses and your main reason for wanting a part-time job from home. Is it just for an additional income or something that you want to be a full-time job and build a career in the future? Ultimately, just like in real life, anything worth having will not come easy, but with a little bit of determination and passion, you too can work on your computer and in any place you want.
