From a fossilized dinosaur egg to an unverified baby Bigfoot sighting, this article features some of the most bizarre stories and discoveries about animals of old and today. Let us know in the comments which of them intrigued you the most!
1. Dinosaur Embryo Found Inside Fossilized Egg

Back in 2021, China had discovered a remarkably well-preserved embryo of a dinosaur inside a fossilized egg. It is already rare to see a dinosaur embryo, but a well-preserved one where you can see it curled up inside like how a bird usually is in their eggs is even more scarce.
Some people even speculated that it had only died a while ago, but tests show that it has been frozen in time for over 66 million years. An embryo’s remains surviving that long is one of the most incredible pieces of this planet’s history, and must be preserved at all costs.

2. The Platypus: Nature’s Strangest Animal

The platypus is one of the most unusual animals on this planet. It is incredibly weird when compared to other animals, as if it were a mixture of many different animals and has evolved to adapt to a lot of environments.
It is a mammal just like humans, but it lays eggs. It also has no stomach as its esophagus is directly connected to its intestines, and when under the shine of a UV light, it glows. Furthermore, it has venom.

3. Creepy “Baby Bigfoot” Sighting in the Woods

It is not a fact that Bigfoot exists, but it is a fact that there are people who believe it is real, and that someone thought they were able to capture a baby Bigfoot walking through the woods.
The person who was able to capture the video thought the shape, size, and shadow all seemed to indicate that it is not from a monkey, primate, or humans, and that it hints at something more mysterious, like a baby Bigfoot.

4. German Circus Uses Holograms Instead of Live Animals

It is common knowledge that animals were long ago used for the entertainment of humans, especially in circuses. However, with the growing trend and movement to protect them, a German circus innovated to still create a show that features animals without having a real animal be harmed.
They were able to do this with holographic moving images of elephants and horses. The show wowed the audiences and shortly became viral online because of how innovative and considerate it was. Hopefully, all the other circuses follow their lead.

5. Pinta Island Tortoise Thought Extinct, Found Again

Lonesome George was the last of his species, a male Pinta Island Tortoise. Scientists back in 2012 tried their best to find him a mate, but failed, and this species was believed to be extinct.
However, in 2019, they found a genetically related female on Fernandina Island in the Galapagos. This discovery gave hope that they might be able to de-extinct that species with the help of genetic engineering and science.

6. The Coelacanth: A 66-Million-Year Comeback

Another species that was thought to be extinct, this time together with the dinosaurs, was found alive off the coast of South Africa in 1938. Scientists have called these creatures a “living fossil” because it has remained unchanged for millions of years.
However, they are relatively close to being extinct, for real this time. The total amount of population estimated is about 1,000 or fewer individuals. But, just like before, you never truly know, as the ocean is a very large, unexplored place for us.

7. European Bison Make a Comeback

The European bison is another good story about an animal that was extinct in the wild and only existed in captivity before, and now lives freely outside. It was successfully reintroduced across several European countries including Romania, Poland, and Germany.
This is all thanks to the conservation efforts of the people and the scientists taking care of them; the population has now grown to a healthy 9,100 individuals, where about 7,000 are in the wild.

8. Alligators Survive Freezing Temperatures by Brumation

American alligators during winter, when it is extremely cold, can enter a state called brumation. This is slowing their metabolism and becoming lethargic. This state removes the need for a massive meal, which is hard to get anyway during this specific season.
What they usually do is they position their noses or snouts above the ice to be able to breathe while the rest of their bodies remain submerged and motionless underwater. This adaptation is what helped them survive for long winter seasons of the past until the temperature went up again, and the hunt could begin.

9. Bear Reacts to Its Reflection

A video of a bear’s amusing reaction after seeing its face and body for the first time in front of the mirror was captured. The bear, after seeing its reflection, had been startled, likely thinking that it was looking at another bear.
After the immediate thought that another bear was behind the tree, the bear tried to find it and ended up going back to the mirror and destroying it.

10. The Wallace Line: Nature’s Invisible Boundary

There is an invincible line called the Wallace line where animals do not cross. It is a biogeographical demarcation that separates animals from different regions across Asia and Australia.
What we can see from this line is that both land and aquatic animals will not cross this barrier because of its geographical barriers, such as deep oceans and strong currents. This has led to a distinct group of animals between the two regions despite being close to each other.
